Four years ago, my husband and I bought our first house.
In this cute little house
there has been joy,
celebrations and backyard barbeques.
We've seen Blue Angels.
Briefly, there was a swimming pool.
...And there was this...
...of a kitchen.
When I first started publishing books, I optimistically referred to my first book, Wishing for a Highlander, as Wishing for a Dishwasher. My critique group, who also happen to be my closest friends (Amy Raby and Julie Brannagh), knew that my goal was to earn enough through that book to purchase a new dishwasher to replace the autumn-gold, non-working appliance taking up space in this kitchen.
I am happy to report that not only did Wishing for a Highlander bring in enough for me to purchase my beautiful stainless steel, quiet-as-a-mouse GE dishwasher (shown in the kitchen pictures above), but it brought in enough to bring my biggest house dream into reality...a NEW KITCHEN!
For four years, I baked cookies, made Saturday morning pancakes, cooked counteless meals and scrubbed countless pans in this nightmare of a kitchen. When we first moved in in 2011, there was no working oven, no working dishwasher, a broken garbage disposal, clogged pipes, and tile so nasty I had to spend 2 full days on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and bleach.
I made the kitchen livable and cobbled together a mismatched package of Craig's List appliances and did my best for four years. Now, thanks to Wishing for a Highlander and my other books and all my wonderful readers, I have an opportunity to bless my family and my neigborhood with a shiny new IKEA kitchen.
Here's what it looks like at the moment:
Here it is a few days ago as I took imense pleasure in participating with my contractor's crew in the demolition.
In a few short weeks, I'll be cooking Thanksgiving dinner in my new kitchen! It's WAY more than I hoped for when I embarked on my publishing journey, and I am so SO thankful.
In celebration of my new kitchen and my upcoming new release, I'm holding two separate giveaways so YOU can happy dance right along with me!
